Romney Sunflower Fest August 14 and 15th, Friday and Saturday

Sunflower Art Show at the Hampshire County Public Library - August 3rd - 31st

August 12th Wednesday Sunflower Hat Decorating Work Shop at Glass House Studio 6:30 - 7:30 pm

August 14th Friday Kickoff - Judging finished for gardens earlier in the week.
Maps available at the Bottling Works & the Library.

4:00 pm Baked goods for ON TRAC Bake Sale deadline at the Bottling Works.

Friday Evening Live Music with The Night Owls at the Bottling Works

5:30 pm Friday Evening BBQ, drinks & Baked Goods Available at the Bottling Works

Painted and Decorated Wooden Sunflowers will be Auctioned Off for Charity Throughout the Evening.

6:30 pm Judging Sunflower Hat Contest

7:00 pm Little Miss Sunshine Contest (ages 7-9)

8:00 pm Announce Winners of the Sunflower Garden Contest

Live Music til 9 at The Bottling Works.


Businesses and Organizations and Individuals will sponsor Wooden Sunflowers, Chose a benefit Charity, work with that Charity to decorate the Wooden Sunflower, Hang it outside their business/home/organization until August 14th.

Then the Wooden Sunflowers will be auctioned off to the highest bidder and all the proceeds will go to the benefit Charity.

Garden Tour Maps available with yellow dots for walking tours, driving tours listing participants and will be available from the Library and downtown Romney Shops early in the week before the Sunflower Fest.

Firehouse Chili Cook Off -August 15th at Romney Sunflower Fest

Join your friends and neighbors for a fun filled afternoon in the Romney Fire Hall parking lot! Bring your pop up tents and your decorations and your homemade chili and salsa to the 1st Annual Firehouse Chili Cook Off held at the Romney Fire Hall Saturday, August 15th.
Opens to the Public at 11am until 4pm with live music on the brand new stage at the Fire Hall, great food,. great fun and great chili! The Romney Volunteer Fire Company will offer BBQ, beer and other beverages while you are getting the chili ready!

The Fire Company will have the area roped off area for competitors and will offer an 8' table and electrical outlet to competitors.

Chili makers, bring your own "booth" and all your friends to vote for you for Best Booth Award! Be creative, decorate your booth and win the grand surprise "Best Booth Award!"

The chili will be judged on the following characteristicsby impartial judges: good flavor, aroma, blend of spices, color, consistency, and texture.

Categories, Entry Fees and Prizes are as follows:

*Traditional Red or White Chili: Entry Fee $ 35

*Vegetarian Chili: Entry Fee $ 35

*Salsa: Entry Fee $ 10

Prizes:

Winner - $ 100 Winner - $ 100

2nd Prize - $ 50 2nd Prize - $ 50

*Salsa:

Winner - $ 40

2nd Prize - $ 15

*Peoples Choice Award (Any Chili). The public will vote for their favorite Chili. Contestants will offer tastings and may sell bowls of chili, if they wish.

*Best Booth Award. The public will vote for the best booth award.


Schedule for Chili Cook Off:


8:00am Fire House Cook Off Area open to Chili Cook Off competitors.


10:00am Short Meeting with all competitors at the Fire House. Each competitor will be allowed 2 free passes for their booth.
All competitors will be given a number and containers for Chili and/or Salsa with the same number on them. Competitors will deliver
the filled containers to the judging area by the times listed below to qualify for judging in that category.
There are No Rules for where Salsa and Chili are made. Salsa and Chili may be made onsite or at home.

11:00am Gates for Chili Cook OFF open to the public, goes all day.
Live Music All Day at the Stage with The Night Owls and The Time Travelers
Wristbands and ballots will be issued so that public can vote for the "People's Choice Award" winning Chili and the public will be allowed to come and go as they like.

1:00 pm Salsa containers will be turned in for judging.

1:30 pm Results of Salsa Judging Announced.

2:00 pm Winner of the "Best Booth" Award Announced. (The public will vote for this winner!)

3:00 pm Vegetarian Chili containers will be turned in for judging.

3:00 pm Red Chili containers will be turned in for judging.

3:30 pm Results of Vegetarian Chili Cook Off Judging Announced.

3:30 pm Results of Red Chili Cook Off Judging Announced.

2:30-3:30 pm Chili Tasting and Voting for People's Choice Awards.

3:30 pm Results of People's Choice Award for Best Chili.
